As longtime F1 fans the thrill of the sport is not just about high-speed racing, clever strategies, talented drivers and glamorous worldwide locations. It’s also about the history and legacy of the circuits on which they race. Each circuit has its own unique story and challenges, with a rich tapestry of triumphs, tragedies, and dramatic moments that have taken place over the years.
As we travel around the world through the F1 2024 race season, we hope to share details and stories about the circuits themselves and how their history and design affect the outcomes of each race. We've come to appreciate the significance of F1 circuits and the historical context in which they exist. It’s fascinating to delve in the archives and discover stories behind the circuits that make up the F1 calendar.
Which brings us to one of the most recent additions to the F1 schedule, the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. First held in 2021 in Jeddah, it has earned the nickname as the "fastest street circuit" on the F1 schedule with the cars averaging around 160 mph. It is the third longest track behind Circuit de Spa du Francorchamps in Belgium and the Las Vegas Strip Circuit. With the high daytime temperatures both qualifying and racing are held at night.
One of the reasons to love the history of F1 circuits is that they are a testament to the evolution of the sport. Over time circuits have changed and evolved to keep up with advances in technology and safety, but they still maintain their distinctive character and flavor. As much as we enjoy all the circuits and their unique details and history, we have always had a special place in our hearts for the four historic circuits still in use today. Monza, Spa, Monte Carlo, and Silverstone. These four circuits were integral to the development of grand prix racing and are still an important part of the modern F1 calendar.
